검찰과 금융당국이 코스닥 상장사 에코프로 전·현직 임직원의 주식 불공정거래 의혹을 포착하고 수사에 강제착수했습니다다.

19일 금융당국 등에 따르면 서울남부지검 금융증권범죄 합동수사단과 금융위원회 특별사법경찰은 지난 16~17일 충북 청주시 에코프로 본사에 수사 인력을 보내 내부 문서와 컴퓨터 저장자료 등을 압수했습니다. 검찰의 에코프로 임직원 관련 불공정거래 의혹 수사는 이번이 두 번째입니다.2022년 2월 중국 환경보호부는 에코프로의 일부 지사에서 환경규제 위반과 불법적인 화학물질 배출을 하고 있다는 내용의 조사 보고서를 발표하였습니다. 이에 대해 에코프로는 해당 지사에서의 조사 결과에 따라 문제가 있는 부분을 개선하겠다는 입장을 밝혔습니다.

그러나 이후 3월 초에는 에코프로의 불공정한 거래 의혹이 더욱 부각되었습니다. 이에 대해 대한민국 검찰과 공정거래위원회가 수사를 진행하고 있습니다. 검찰은 에코프로 관련자들의 자택 등을 압수수색하였으며, 공정거래위원회는 에코프로와 관련한 불공정거래 여부를 조사하고 있습니다.

에코프로는 이에 대해 "공정하고 투명한 경영을 지속적으로 추진하겠다"며 입장을 밝혔습니다. 하지만 현재까지 수사가 진행 중이며, 결과에 따라 에코프로의 평판과 비즈니스에 영향을 미칠 수 있습니다.

Prosecutors and financial authorities have launched an investigation into allegations of insider trading involving current and former employees of the Kosdaq-listed company EcoPro.

According to authorities on the 19th, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's Financial Securities Crime Joint Investigation Division and the Financial Services Commission's Special Judicial Police sent investigators to EcoPro's headquarters in Cheongju, Chungbuk on the 16th and 17th, seizing internal documents and computer files. This is the second time the prosecutors have investigated EcoPro for allegations of insider trading related to its employees.

In February 2022, China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment released an investigative report stating that some EcoPro subsidiaries in China violated environmental regulations and illegally discharged chemicals. EcoPro responded by stating that it would address the issues identified by the investigation.

However, in early March, suspicions of EcoPro's unfair transactions came to the forefront, leading to ongoing investigations by the Korean prosecution and the Fair Trade Commission. The prosecution has conducted searches and seizures of the homes of EcoPro personnel, and the Fair Trade Commission is investigating whether EcoPro engaged in unfair transactions.

EcoPro has stated that it will "continue to pursue fair and transparent management", but the ongoing investigations could have an impact on the company's reputation and business depending on the outcome.
